Our Approach
At Black Castle Networks we're driven by a desire to go Further Beyond - in the design of reliable, secure and survivable Mission-Critical networks that First Responders rely on to save lives in our communities every day.
We design the best of secure voice & data networks for Smart Cities & Safe Cities.
Our philosophy is aimed at providing highly reliable & highly secure networks with a view to systems-of-systems integration. We believe in the merits of distributed architecture principles, while using open standards to ensure low-cost and interoperable networks.
We also bring a "6-Sigma approach" to optimizing networks and integrated systems, and really to everything we do.
Our focus is to always ensure the end user First-Responder needs are met and exceeded - to help build safer communities and smarter cities.
Our Story
Every business has a beginning, and ours is about creating networks and solutions that are distributed - yet coordinated and strong - just like Martello towers in the distributed military defenses from centuries long ago.
Martello towers are survivable strongholds for times of crisis and attack, yet flexible and low cost at the same time.
Black Castle Networks aims to create wireless voice & data networks + Mission-Critical devices and apps that are just like those Martello towers - rugged, secured, interoperable & independently survivable in times of need and emergency for Public Safety agencies.

Founder & President
Phil Crnko, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., brings over 20 years of engineering and business experience + a holistic approach to Mission-Critical network design.
A graduate of McMaster University with advanced degrees in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Phil effectively bridges engineering and business worlds and has successfully worked on LMR (Land Mobile Radio) and PSBN (Public Safety Broadband) system designs and negotiations with senior executives at municipal, provincial, state and federal agencies across Canada, and internationally.
Working with Motorola Solutions Inc. out of Chicago and Toronto for over 14 years, coupled with an additional 8 years experience in Mission-Critical designs at the St. Lawrence Seaway Authority, Ontario Power Generation, Hydro One, and Redline Communications, Phil has pretty much seen it all.
From roots as a Motorola cellular R&D engineer to regional systems engineering lead, to engineering director level accountability for all of pre-sales in Canada with responsibility for an over ~$200 Million annual market orders P&L, and most recently acting as General Manager for sales & business operations responsible for the Ontario Market, Phil has a significant business perspective of both historical & future trends in the LMR & PSBN markets in Canada.
